The Jackson R-2 School Special Education Department provides staff, resources, and supports throughout the district depending on the needs of students in the district, as required under The Individuals with Disabilities Act – 97 (IDEA-97). General educators and special educators work together with parents to teach children with and without disabilities in a variety of settings in each school. |
To receive special education services, a student between the ages of 3 – 21 must meet the eligibility criteria in one of the sixteen categories as outlined in the Missouri State Plan for Special Education. The eligibility categories include:
Autism
Deaf/Blind
Emotional Disturbance
Hearing Impairment/Deafness
Mental Retardation
Multiple Disabilities
Orthopedic Impairment
Learning Disability
Language Impairment
Sound System Disorder
Speech Fluency
Speech/Voice
Traumatic Brain Injury
Vision Impairment
Young Child with Developmental Delay
